Walk-in Growth Chambers

The walk-in growth chamber provides users with a controlled environment. It contains closed cultivation units, which can be set independently for a different light or temperature program. However, it is not possible to adjust the humidity of each unit. Therefore, any significant difference between chamber and unit temperature can cause drought stress in the unit (higher than ambient). Temperature, relative humidity, and light condition values are continuously recorded.

They are suitable for experiments with defined temperature, light intensity, and spectrum, abiotic stress experiments, comparative phenotyping, selection of transgenic lines, in vitro/in soil cultivation (hydroponics possible), Arabidopsis thaliana or a model plant with similar environmental conditions demands, algae or mosses. They are unsuitable for temperature extremes (+5°C or + 40°C; 18 to 25°C is optimal).

General features:

Temperature:

  • adjustable, but units only heat up
  • 2 to 14 ℃ above ambient temperature (i.e. 10 to 40°C)
  • the whole chamber is cooled down by 4 °C difference to the lowest set temperature
  • not suitable for temperature extremes (5°C or 40°C; 18 to 25°C is optimal)

Light:

  • horizontal, 5 LED light channels (Warm White, Royal Blue, Deep Red, Far Red, UV)
  • homogenous light distribution
  • adjustable light intensity: 0-100 % (each light channel)
  • dawn/dusk simulation; sine or cloudy daylight modes

Relative humidity:

  • adjustable for the whole chamber 50-80 %

External devices:

  • Electric 230V socket – shaker, rocker, etc.
  • Connector for receptors – PPFD, light spectrum, etc.
