Jiunn Luh Tan awarded for the best oral presentation
Jiunn Luh Tan, a dedicated PhD student at the Institute of Entomology and Faculty of Sciences, University of South Bohemia, achieved a remarkable accolade at the 8th Meeting of the IOBC-WPRS Working Group on "Integrated Control of Plant-Feeding Mites" held in Belgrade, Serbia, from September 4th to 7th, 2023. Tan received the prestigious "Best PhD Student Oral Presentation Award" for his captivating talk titled "Eriophyid Mites, Spider Mites, and Predatory Mites on Red Raspberry in South-Eastern Norway." This accomplishment underscores Jiunn Luh Tan's outstanding research contributions to the field of acarology.
The event itself drew a diverse assembly of 49 participants hailing from 15 countries and three continents, encompassing scientists, experts, professionals, as well as graduate and post-graduate students. The gathering served as a vital platform for disseminating research findings in the realms of biology, ecology, and integrated control methods for plant-feeding mite pests, further solidifying Tan's reputation as a rising star in the field.
Tan’s study was part of the large bilateral project “Healthy berries in a changing climate: development of new biotechnological procedures for virus diagnostics, vector studies, elimination and safe preservation of strawberry and raspberry” which benefits from a € 1,450,000 grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants and Technology Agency of the Czech Republic. His stay in Norway was co-funded by the IBERA grants of Biology Centre CAS and the Erasmus+ programme of University of South Bohemia.
