Virologists have a new project
Dr. Igor Koloniuk and his team of researchers of the virology department, Institute of Plant Molecular Biology BC, managed to get a new project COST 2015-2017 "Implementation of NGS in plant virology – unprecedented capacity with a risk of data overflow".
The project is focused on application of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in the field of plant virology. NGS technologies suited best for resolving not only the prevalent virus infection, but also presence of asymptomatic presence of latent, persistent orlow-concentrated viruses. The holistic nature of NGS allows detection and identification of plant pathogens without prior knowledge of their genetic traits.
We will deal with issues related to fragmentary data interpretation and subsequent false-negative and -positive results. As two model objects, clover and hop plants will be used. The expected results of the project should contribute to the practical implementation of NGS for needs of plant pathology.
